Plot:
National Mirror tabloid reporters Frank Quinlan and Huey Driscoll specialize in reporting on the exaggerated aspects of life, or creating them as needed. When they get a letter from Pansy Milbank stating that she has a true, winged angel living with her, they know they can't pass this one by. Their boss, Vartan Malt, threatens to fire them if they don't bring back a great story. They take along newcomer Dorothy Winters, who's been hired to train Sparky, the company dog, and all of them head for the heartland of Iowa. There they meet Michael the angel, but his unshaven slob-like appearance and chain smoking/beer drinking behavior is far from what they imagined. As they take him back to Chicago for their exclusive story, they learn that he wants to see the sights of the land as this is his last heaven-sent trip to Earth. - Taken from Screen It!
The rhythm is rather sustained and although some scene could have been shortened the movie is not boring at all, the funny scenes keep the audience awake! The ending is not particularly good, the whole story wasn't obviously oriented to a dramatic or sad finale being somewhat superficial and frivolous. Since I usually prefer a different kind of movies, this lack of 'thickness' seems a rather serious flaw to me... The italian translation deserves a particularly negative mark. Apart from some minor joke that can't be translated easily (eg. in Italy the Apostles have italian names that can't clearly be confused with the Beatles "John" and "Paul"!), the whole scene about the pies has been translated in a rather strange way since 'pie' isn't really a word used in Italy, not even to describe that particular kind of dishes, and then the country song with subtitles looked a bit rough... ![]() ![]()
