But why would I want to do a thing like that?

Jonny Lee Miller (Sick Boy)
Kevin McKidd (Tommy)
Robert Carlyle (Francis Begbie)
Runtime: 93 minutes
Plot:
A wild, freeform, Rabelaisian trip through the darkest recesses of Edinburgh low-life, focusing on Mark Renton and his attempt to give up his heroin habit, and how the latter affects his relationship with family and friends Sean Connery wannabe Sick Boy, dimbulb Spud, psycho Begbie, 14-year-old girlfriend Diane, and clean-cut athlete Tommy, who's never touched drugs but can't help being curious about them... - Michael Brooke

Comment:
One of the strongest movie I've ever seen, a movie that simply can't be ignored or forgotten. The first half includes many incredible scenes and speeches (such as Mark entering the worst toilet in Scotland!) and is filmed in a rather uncommon way while the second half has a more conventional plot and the interest fades a bit near the end.

I laughed a lot during some really silly (but usually also disgusting!) moments but this doesn't really mean that the whole movie was amusing, these few funny scenes were surrounded by a sense of sadness, desolation and death.

Trainspotting shows a very bad side of the society and also the 'open' ending doesn't really change the general negative feeling that the movie presents.
