The ghost and the darkness

24  DEC
TUE
Prey for the hunters.

Directed by  Stephen Hopkins
Written by  William Goldman
Starring:  Val Kilmer (John Patterson)
Michael Douglas (Remington)
Runtime: 109 minutes
Plot:
Set in 1898, this movie is based on the true story of two lions in Africa that killed 130 people over a nine month period, while a bridge engineer (Val Kilmer) and an experienced old hunter (Michael Douglas) tried to kill them. - Adil Siddiqi

Comment:
A nice setting, the african landscape, lovely filmed and a rather obvious but still nice story. Val Kilmer is one of my preferred actors and this, together with his good acting and his interesting character, strongly supports the movie.

The action is rather compelling and, unlike other similar adventure movies, the events aren't completely predictable, there is enough suspense and everything happens quite quickly without 'empty' moments.

The final fight with the lion is a bit exaggerated but considering other similar movies it could have been much worse.

Rating: 7.5  ****
