Plot:
Lavish musical drama, based on the hit stage production by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, telling the life story of Eva Duarte (Madonna) who leaves her rural home for Buenos Aires in the company of Latin singer Agustin Magaldi (Jimmy Nail), eventually becoming the wife of President Juan Peron (Jonathan Pryce) and a heroine to the people of Argentina. - Jonathan Broxton
I don't know how close this movie is to the real historical fact but it has been interesting to see this musical transposition of the life of Eva Peron. Madonna has been surprisingly good in performing this character although sometimes during the movie I thought that she was actually acting as herself since her life has many points in common with the life of Evita. The alternation of funny moments with serious and sometimes touching moments (which were the strong point of the movie) keeps alive the interest even if some parts are a bit too long, probably because of music constraints. About the music, most of the songs were nice and both Madonna and Antonio Banderas were very good at singing. I also appreciated the idea of having some recurring sentences and themes and also the circularity of the whole movie (it starts with Evita's funeral and ends with her death and the funeral again).
