![]() Comment: People looking for a typical Hollywood movie, full of politically correct stereotypes will have to forget about There's something about Mary. It's not just a matter of vulgarity, sex-related jokes and situations, it's also a continuous spoof of every kind of physical or mental 'diversity', bad jokes for handicapped or disabled people, gay, obese, etc. The story starts with a short depiction of a typical high-school nerd, Ted, that has a chance to date a beautiful girl, Mary. However, due to his imbecility, he ruins everything... 10 years later, he hires a private investigator in order to find Mary but the investigator becomes fascinated by her and starts giving Ted wrong informations. Incidentally, he is not the only one who lies for Mary's love...
There are too many scenes that provoked a big laugh from all the audience and it won't be fair to spoil them. However, if you heard about this movie then you should surely know about the funny scene with the... ehm... 'peculiar' hair gel, which is the closing 'effect' of a tremendous masturbation scene. Most of the jokes are physical or at least visual, there are almost no subtle verbal jokes. Both Ben Stiller and Cameron Diaz don't seem intimidated at all by what they have to do and they fully contribute to the success of the movie.
